Almonds (Prunus dulcis) have a long history originating in the mountainous regions of the Far East, more specifically in the areas known today as Iran and

Afghanistan. Almonds are thought to be the first nuts to be cultivated by humans, with farming of the trees dating back thousands of years.

During the Renaissance, almonds underwent a revival in their popularity in Europe, as travellers and traders brought them back with them from faraway lands. Over time almonds crossed the ocean and found a new home in America, where they prospered in climates such as in California, which is now one of the world’s main almond producers.
